Kagan on Way to Confirmation

June 30, 2010

After the second day of questioning before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan appears to be sure to be confirmed.  Fifty year old Kagan, a graduate of Harvard Law School, would be the youngest justice of the court.

One of the most interesting things about the hearings (to me, at least) was Minnesota Senator Al Franken's doodle of Senator Jeff Session (R-Alabama).  I think he's a pretty good artist!

He also drew an accurate map of the United States from memory at the Minnesota State Fair and Minnesota with scribbles.

And was it a surprise it was a Harvard connection again? When will we see our first Asian American on the Supreme Court?

Another anti-military liberal Socialist added to the party. God help us all.

Kagan isn't anti-military. Did you watch the hearing? Neither is she a liberal Socialist? Did you watch the hearing?

Lots of geniuses are good artists! He is talented.

Well she isn't a conservative is she? The Republicans were frustrated with her evasiveness and unwillingness to deal with any issue of legal significance requiring a discussion of her views or opinions.

THANK GOD, SHE ISN'T A CONSERVATIVE!!!!!

Evasive - have you watch any confirmation hearing since the Bork hearing? Also, the Senator, Mr. Clown, from GA, is the only judicial nominee in decades to not make it out of committee. BTW - he's a conservative southern repub.

Oops, I meant Senator Clown from AL

Ok, not evasive. Non-responsive.
Senator Clown from Alabama huh? You have clowns in Congress?

If Kagan isn't Conservative then she is what? Liberal? A socialist? A moderate liberal? A left-wing liberal? While Dean of Harvard what did Kagan do as to military recruiters?

She will SOAR through the confirmation process! She and Scalia will engage in some interesting battles which will prompt Sotomayor to show her true colors. She'll be so liberal she'll make Ginsberg look like a moderate Republican. 5-4 will be the splits from here on out.

Can we nominate a justice or two based on legal scholarship, now that we have fulfilled the liberal ratio requirement of a certain # of women, blacks, gays, Hispanics, Jews, etc.?

anon 10:47 right on!

10:47 Are you saying they lack legal scholarship? You need to read what scholars said about Kagan's brilliance in understanding and quoting law.

Diversity of legal jurisprudence; cultural diversity; economic diversity; and social diversity are all criteria. Right now the heavy bent on the East Coast Harvard Literati from Obama to Kagan as well as Roberts is pause for concern for the majority of the country who are neither part of the intellectual elite nor the wealthy. She may be smart, but she does not know of our experience.
