Kevin Ring, the former chief of staff for former Rep. John Doolittle (R-Abramoff) and  smug Abramoff deputy who visited the CNMI and helped to obstruct federalization and protections for foreign workers in the CNMI was found guilty at his second trial.  The jurors took thee days to reach their verdict.

The first jury resulted in a hung jury and a retrial was scheduled.  The defiant defendant was the only lobbyist charged in the Abramoff scandal to fight his charges.

 The AP reported:
Ring was found guilty of conspiracy, honest services fraud and giving an illegal gratuity to an aide of former Attorney General John Ashcroft. The 40-year-old former Republican congressional aide from Kensington, Md., showed no emotion in response, and neither he nor the attorneys commented on the verdict.

Jurors deliberated for three days after a two-week trial. Ring's lawyers argued he was only doing his job as a lobbyist by trying to build relationships with federal officials who had sway over issues affecting his clients. Several jurors said in interviews after leaving the courtroom that they didn't know much about how lobbying worked before the case, but prosecutors convinced them he crossed the line.
Comments made by the jurors suggest that it was Ring's own snarky emails that convinced the jurors of his guilt.

Implicated in the scandal are former Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA), DOJ official Robert Coughlin and Rep. Ernest Istook's former chief of staff, John Albaugh. Ring gave them tickets to sporting events, concerts and paid for expensive meals in exchange for pushing the political agenda of his clients including the Northern Mariana Islands.

His sentencing is scheduled for March 1, 2011. Ring can get up to five years in prison for conspiracy, two years in prison for payment of a gratuity and 20 years in prison for each of the three counts of honest services wire fraud. U.S. District Judge Ellen S. Huvelle scheduled sentencing for March 1, 2011.
