Prayer Vigil For Japan

March 17, 2011

Communities across the world are uniting to help Japan recover from the devastating earthquake and tsunami. The conditions are horrible: freezing weather and snow, no electricity for millions, the threat of nuclear radiation, and shortages of food, water and fuel. Over 15,000 are dead or missing as rescue missions continue.

A prayer vigil to express condolences and unity with the people of Japan is being held in Saipan at the American Memorial Park on March 20, 2011 at 6:00pm. The vigil will be coordinated with a fund drive sponsored by the American Red Cross-NMOI chapter. For more information about the vigil, call Rabby Syed at 888-4025 or park ranger Nancy Kelchner at 234-7207 Ext. 2020.

CNMI residents may also sign the Japanese Book of Condolences for the victims and those suffering from the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami disaster that hit northeastern Japan on March 11. The Book of Condolence is at the Japanese Consulate and signatures will be accepted on the following dates and times:

* March 18: 8:30am - 12:15pm and 1pm - 4:30pm
* March 21: 8:30am - 12:15pm and 1pm - 4:30pm
