Let the De-Throning Begin...

August 20, 2012

Rep. Janet Maratita (I-Saipan) filed a motion in the CNMI Superior Court to stop the backdoor scheme signed on August 3, 2012 that would bind the CNMI over $200 million for 25 years in a diesel power plant deal.  The secret agreement was penned by former criminal AG Edward Buckingham, CNMI Governor Benigno Fitial and Saipan Development, LLC, the questionable company that was registered in Delaware 5 days before the agreement was written.

According to the Saipan Tribune, the motion filed by Attorney Ramon Quichocho requests the court to issue a Temporary Restraining Order to prevent the $200 million 25-year backdoor deal from proceeding. Rep. Maratita also filed a taxpayer lawsuit against Fitial, Buckingham, the CUC, and Saipan Development, LLC for signing the agreement.

From the Saipan Tribune:
The lawmaker asked the Superior Court to declare that the power purchase agreement is unconstitutional, illegal, unconscionable, and unjust, and therefore cancelled.
Good for Rep Maritita! While there has been talk of impeachment for the last week, everyone knows that it is action that is required. This legislator has demonstrated that someone is actually willing to stand up to the corrupt schemers who rule the CNMI as autocratic dictators who act as though they are above the law.

Also to be commended is the lady standing at the bottom of Capital Hill with the white placard with the red words, "Honk.... Impeach". The unnamed woman told the press that she "represents the silent majority already fed up with the corruption and other bad things happening in government." (Read more in the Saipan Tribune and Marianas Variety.)

At the Commonwealth Health Center, physicians speak of abandoning the crumbling hospital as the CEO Juan Babauta hid from the press.  It was reported that half of the medical supplies are gone, salaries are delayed, benefits have not been paid and the hospital is seriously understaffed with more planning to join the exodus. More disturbing is that Babauta is apparently trying to deceive regulating agencies "by painting a rosy picture."

The Marianas Variety reported:
Another patient, a Japanese tourist, went to the emergency room due to food poisoning and dehydration but could not even get a glass of water because no cups were available.
“I tried to explain to them that the hospital was experiencing difficulties,” said a Japanese translator that acts as a CHC medical escort for tourists.
The fear is that the state of the hospital will stop tourism. (Read more in the Marianas Variety.)

Meanwhile former AG Edward Buckingham has still refused to return to the CNMI. It is reported that he is vacationing in San Francisco. A bench warrant was issued for the criminal's arrest.  Governor Fitial left the CNMI in auto-pilot crisis mode as he left for a junket to Hawaii, American Samoa and Florida.

Governor Fitial prides himself on his tight relationships with Republican members of the U.S. Congress and the Republican Party's Presidential candidate. Some of these people may actual not want to be affiliated with a governor who releases a federal prisoner from jail for a massage, has a bodyguard-driver that trafficked drugs from his car, assisted his AG to obstruct justice, and on and on.  Anyone who wishes to inform the Republican National Committee of the corrupt governor's corrupt dealings and antics on the wrong side of the law can write to The Republican National Committee, 310 First Street, SE Washington, DC 20003 or call at 202-863-8500. You may also want to contact the press or write a letter to the editor of the newspapers in Tampa where the governor will be attending the Republican National Convention.

I doubt that any impeachment will happen as these house members are incapable and dirty.
And with Maratita, while I agree with her actions, she only made this move to be able to get a chance to get re-elected as she has done absolutely nothing during her term except to collect a pay check.
