More on Scandals from the CNMI

January 17, 2013

Why is the U.S. Department of Homeland Security giving vehicles to a corrupt, mismanaged police department led and staffed by personnel with criminal records? How can they even consider giving additional federally funded vehicles to this corrupt agency when DPS actually used federally funded vehicles and equipment in an illegal operation to aide and abet fugitive former AG Edward Buckingham to flee the CNMI?

The DHS gave 5 vehicles valued at $158,000 to DPS.

The U.S. DOJ needs to investigate the corrupt and abusive CNMI Department of Public Safety NOW. It does not need to enable it,  fund it, or ignore that officers and administrators are using DPS to break laws and assist others in covering up criminal acts.

Tenorio Objects to Impeachment

Former Governor Froilan Tenorio has voiced his objections to corrupt Governor Benigno Fitial's impeachment saying the impeachment "would set a bad precedent."

It is not surprising that Tenorio thinks that Fitial is guilty only of bad "policies" since he also was a governor he felt he was above the law and could bully, manipulate, lie and scheme.

Fitial will be the first governor of the CNMI to be impeached, regardless of Tenorio's two cents.

Superior Court Associate Judge Wiseman Appoints Special Prosecutor

Attorney George Hasselback OPA Counsel has been appointed as the special prosecutor in the criminal case against former AG Edward Buckingham. According to the Saipan Tribune, Hasselback has statutory authority to bring criminal charges against Buckingham, and suspected co-conspirators, including Governor Fitial and the DPS officials who aided Buckingham in fleeing from the commonwealth.

Wiseman noted that the OAG's conflict of interest was not limited to Buckingham but also included the police officers and other public officials involved in the conspiracy.

From the Saipan Tribune:
The judge said Hasselback asserts that the OPA's ongoing investigation has revealed strong evidence that certain police officers and/or public officials unlawfully aided Buckingham in attempting to avoid service of summons process.
Indeed. So one has to ask why the U.S. DOJ and DHS are not investigating this case involved DPS officials breaching security at an international airport.

It would be wise for George to request armed Federal protection through trial - then leave island immediately after.

do you have documentation that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has funded vehicles for DPS? A DPS vehicle with the words 'Homeland Security' on them isn't evidence, the CNMI has their own Office of Homeland Security unrelated to the Fed Gov. They also have vehicles with the words 'Human Trafficking Taskforce' on them that have nothing to do with the Fed Department of Homeland Security. Most likely any funding going to DPS is from USDOJ or DOI...

as i thought the CNMI dept of homeland security provided the vehicles. it states that the CNMI dept of homeland security purchased the vehicles with Fed grant money. who knows where the fed grant money originated and for what purpose. I agree the feds need much more oversite on the money they give to the CNMI....

Frolin is just lucky he never went to jail over the early scams he and his brother pulled on the development of the Tinian Dynasty Casino project. He would never getaway with what he did back then in todays political climate in the CNMI.

@Wendy. No, not a threat. What I'm saying is that George is going to be prosecuting corrupt armed cops. Wouldn't you want some protection if you were in his zoris?

10:23 I understand what you are saying. Of course, I hope he gets federal protection.

I am wondering why Homeland security purchased 4X4 pickup trucks.
Maybe to be able to haul those big ass wanna be cops around and also to be able to water their "pot" farms and transport all of the other "stuff" that is "confiscated" be their relative in Customs (and the stealers etc)plus off day outing to the beaches with their family and friends.
I hope Fitial get impeached and then Inos cleans house, back to the core and then can start over.
