The numbers of Americans who back a pathway to citizenship for unauthorized immigrants is soaring. A Gallup survey shows that 72% would "allow undocumented immigrants living in the United States the chance to become legal residents or citizens if they meet certain requirements."
The Washington Post reported:
"Public approval of Barack Obama's handling of immigration has jumped to a career high in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, buttressed by majority support for a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, and much more broadly, endorsement of stricter border control."It is time for the CNMI foreign workers to stand up, speak out, scream to the American people who are now embracing immigration reform. Speak out so that they understand your plight and your urgent need for status. Be unheard no more!
CNMI FORIGN WORKERS TAKE A STAND ON STATUS: SHARE YOUR STORY WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!
You have an opportunity to tell your immigration story to President Obama and the American people! As a member of Obama's Organizing for Action team, I received an email urging immigrants both documented or undocumented to tell their stories "to make sure Congress and the Americans better understand the ties that bind us."
Go to this site:
Tell the President and the American people why the estimated 12,000 LEGAL, long-term foreign workers deserve a pathway to citizenship, just as is being proposed for the 11 million undocumented aliens in the U.S. mainland. Tell the President and the American people that the out-of-status aliens in the CNMI deserve the same status which is being proposed for the out-of-status aliens in the U.S. mainland.
Tell them where you came from, how long you have lived and worked in the CNMI. Tell them about your family and your vision of the American Dream. Tell them about your struggles, including any wage theft and how much was stolen from you. Tell them about your contributions as a dedicated worker and upstanding community member. Tell them why, as a CNMI legal, long-term foreign worker, you deserve the same pathway to citizenship that is being proposed for the undocumented workers in the U.S. mainland. You already "earned" your pathway. You entered the U.S. legally, you followed the rules and you worked hard. You have contributed to this country. You deserve a clear path. This is your chance to be heard! Seize it now!
